Hey there, fellow fishing enthusiasts! Ready to experience the best of Pensacola's inshore waters as the sun dips below the horizon? Water Walker Fishing's sunset charter is your ticket to an evening of rod-bending action and breathtaking views. We'll hit the sweet spots near Pensacola Pass just as the sky turns golden, then follow the bite into Big Lagoon as the stars come out. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, this trip's got something special for everyone.
Picture this: You're stepping onto the boat as the late afternoon heat starts to fade. The water's calm, there's a gentle breeze, and the sky's getting ready to put on a show. We'll cruise out towards Pensacola Pass, where the fishing action heats up as the day cools down. As night falls, we might switch gears and head for the dock lights in Big Lagoon – that's where the night feeders come out to play. It's a 3-hour trip that flies by, but don't worry, if you're having a blast, we can always extend the fun for a few more hours.
Ever tried night fishing? It's a whole different ballgame. We'll start with some classic inshore techniques as the sun sets, maybe tossing soft plastics or live bait around structures. But once it gets dark, that's when the real magic happens. We'll use special lights to attract bait fish, which in turn brings in the predators. You'll be amazed at how different the water looks at night – it's like fishing in a whole new world. And the best part? The fish often bite better after dark, so get ready for some serious action.
Pensacola's inshore waters are teeming with tasty targets. Redfish are the local favorites – these copper-colored bruisers put up a great fight and are delicious on the grill. Spotted Seatrout, or "specks" as we call 'em, are another top catch. They're known for their spotted backs and tend to school up, so where there's one, there's often more. And let's not forget about Mangrove Snapper – these crafty little guys hang around structure and can be a real challenge to hook. But man, are they good eating!
No need to stress about equipment – we've got you covered from rod to reel. Water Walker Fishing provides all the gear you'll need, including high-quality rods, reels, and the best bait for the conditions. We use a mix of artificial lures and live bait, depending on what's working best. And here's a bonus: your fishing license is included in the trip. So all you need to bring is your excitement and maybe a light jacket for when the sun goes down.
Let's talk about the stars of our show: Grey Snapper, Sea Trout, and Redfish. Grey Snapper, also known as Mangrove Snapper, are sneaky little devils. They love to hang around structure and can be finicky eaters, but catch one, and you're in for a treat. These guys are most active during the cooler evening hours, making our sunset trip perfect for targeting them.
Sea Trout, or Spotted Seatrout, are a favorite among light tackle enthusiasts. They're known for their delicate bite and acrobatic jumps once hooked. During our evening trips, we often find them in deeper holes or around lighted docks. The "gator" trout (the big ones) come out to play more often after dark, so keep your line tight!
And then there's the mighty Redfish. These copper-colored beauties are the bulldogs of inshore fishing. They'll test your drag and your arms with powerful runs. In the evening, we often find them cruising the flats or hanging around structure. The sound of a redfish hitting topwater in the fading light is something you won't forget.

These copper-colored fish, also called Mangrove Snapper, are a blast to catch in Pensacola's inshore waters. They usually run 10-14 inches and 1-2 pounds around here, but can get up to 20 pounds offshore. Look for them near structure like docks, rocks, and mangroves in 10-30 feet of water. They're opportunistic hunters, so let your bait sink and stay still. Use a 4J hook with live shrimp hooked through the tail or mud minnows. Grey Snappers are most active at night, especially around full moons when they spawn. Anglers love targeting them for their great fight and excellent white, flaky meat. My tip: fish the dock lights in Big Lagoon as it gets dark - that's when they really start biting.
Redfish, or Red Drum, are one of our top targets here in Pensacola. They're easy to spot with that black dot near the tail. Most inshore reds run 20-30 inches and 3-8 pounds, but they can get much bigger offshore. Look for them in shallow water, 1-4 feet deep, around oyster bars, grass flats, and structure. They love to hang out so shallow sometimes their backs are out of the water! Fall is prime time when they're schooling up, but you can catch them year-round. Reds put up an awesome fight and taste great too. Try a gold spoon or a soft plastic under a popping cork. My local trick: sight-cast to them in clear shallows on calm days - it's a rush when you see that big tail come up and grab your lure.
Spotted Seatrout, or Specks as we call 'em, are a favorite inshore catch here in Pensacola. They usually run 14-24 inches and 1-5 pounds. You'll find them in grass flats and shallow waters, especially at night. In winter, they school up in deeper channels. These fish put up a good fight and taste great, with delicate white meat. They're fun to catch on artificial lures like jerk baits, topwater plugs, and soft plastics. My go-to is a plastic shrimp on a jig head. Work it slowly along grass edges or under dock lights. The best time to target them is fall through spring when the water's cooler. Remember, they have soft mouths, so don't set the hook too hard or you might tear it out.
